Global Finance-New Horizons
Professor Fariborz Ghadar
The course deals with the analysis of problems in international
business finance and the impact of evolving international payment
systems on business. The focus will be on how decisions about financial
management are and should be made in the modern multinational
enterprise. The impact that these decisions have on the worldwide
allocation of economic resources and distribution of wealth will be
assessed. Other topics of discussion include: what are the financial
risks inherent in these decisions? What role can new financial
instruments play in the management of these risks?

Global Perspective
Professor Fariborz Ghadar
This course will provide students with an overview of the factors
business leaders should consider in a global business environment.
Students will develop appreciation of differences in property rights
around the globe, property rights relationships to returns on labor and
capital and perform political risk assessment, a key managerial tool.
The new millennium is accompanied by accelerated changes in the global
business environment. Products which used to take a leisurely 15 years
to work their way through the product life cycle, now rush through it
in a matter of three or four years. At the same time, the global
environment is growing more rigorous. Regional protectionism is on the
rise and exchange-rate fluctuations are becoming difficult to project.
Successful companies will be streamlined and flexible, with a staff
well equipped to anticipate the challenges of the global marketplace.
Major political risk factors are influenced by currency competitiveness
and convertibility. Students will learn to explore the impact of
currency valuation and convertibility on global businesses issues. The
focus will be on how decisions about financial management are and
should be made on the modern multinational enterprise. These strategies
will affect all members of the corporate community including research
and development, production, marketing, and general management.
